“Thunderstruck:” The Meteoric Rise of Raging Bolt ex

Hey there, Cut or Tap Readers! Today I will be sharing my thoughts on a deck that has been absolutely dominating the online tournament scene – Raging Bolt ex. When Temporal Forces first released, I initially wrote off this card as bulk ex material. However, just one set later, the introduction of a small masked Supporter catapulted Raging Bolt into the top tiers of competitive play.

For those unfamiliar, Raging Bolt ex is a 240 HP Basic Pokémon with no Weakness. Its second attack, for one Fighting and one Lightning Energy, allows you to discard any amount of Energy from your field, dealing 70 damage for each Energy discarded. The first attack, costing a single Colorless Energy, lets you discard your hand and draw a fresh six cards – perfect for when you find yourself with a poor starting hand.

The card that holds this deck together is Teal Mask Ogerpon ex. This new addition from the latest set allows you to attach an extra Grass Energy to Ogerpon ex each turn, while also drawing a card. Since Raging Bolt ex can discard Energy of any type from anywhere on the board, Ogerpon provides the perfect Energy acceleration to fuel devastating attacks that can knock out anything in its path.

Here is my current list for Raging Bolt ex:
