“Creeping Down the Block:” Intro to Charizard ex/Dusknoir

Boo, Subs, and welcome back to another article here on Cut or Tap!

Finally the time has come for our lovely website to begin coverage of the 2024 Worlds format. Players across the world will undoubtedly start their preparations for the World Championship now that July has arrived. For those who are unfamiliar with the format, it will consist of the same sets legal for NAIC 2024, plus a mini-set releasing soon called Shrouded Fable. This set is not as impactful as a full set would be going into the World Championships, but this set has a handful of cards that can shake up some decks.

The biggest card to impact this format by far is the new Dusknoir line being released. This new line consists of a 60HP Duskull which isn’t super relevant, followed by a Dusclops that has a self-KO Ability in exchange for placing five damage counters onto one of your opponent’s Pokemon, and finally Dusknoir with the same self-KO Ability but for 13 damage counters. Cursed Bomb is such a strong Ability for a multitude of reasons, which we will cover in this article.

We will also go over why Charizard ex decks find a home for this Dusknoir line, as well as which matchups it starts to flip. Lastly, I’ll include the list I’ve been testing for close to a month, which has felt strong against most of the decks in our new format.

Let’s hop into what makes this creepy ghost Pokemon so potent!
