SmartTCG’s Top Two Decks for Toronto

Over the years I have played, the majority of formats have been dominated by a select few decks. I would watch decks take up 18-20+ percent of each format, and sometimes they would feel stale. In the year 2024, that is not the case. The Pokemon Trading Card Game is currently in one of the most diverse metagames that I have ever seen. Instead of just two or three decks dominating, there are maybe six or seven that could realistically win an event. When looking at recent events, the most played deck is only hovering around the 11-13% range.

Over the past few events I have felt this change, hitting a very wide variety of decks. This diverse metagame actually makes it pretty difficult to metagame for. We aren’t exactly sure what we will hit, and deckbuilding becomes more difficult in such a diverse metagame.

I have been attending almost every major tournament TPCI has held recently, so I feel I have a pretty good idea on the metagame. There are two decks that I feel personally stand out for me, that I would recommend playing this weekend. I have worked on both of these lists quite a bit, and I will likely be playing one of them to this upcoming Toronto Regional Championships. They also make strong locals, League Challenge, and League Cup decks as well.

Let’s take a dive into my top two plays for this event.
